It is a synthetic piperidine-based active ingredient produced by first obtaining 2-hydroxyethylpiperidine through catalytic hydrogenation of raw materials such as 2-hydroxyethylpyridine (or cyclohexane derivatives), and then reacting it with sec-butyl chloroformate. It is a new-generation compound specifically designed for human insect repellency; its molecular structure is intended to provide highly effective insect repellency while minimizing adverse effects on humans and the environment.

Icaridin molecules bind to specific binding sites on the insects’ olfactory receptors, creating a “masking effect”—it does not repel the insects, but it confuses their olfactory system, preventing them from recognizing the signal that “this is a human.” Simply put, it’s like erecting an invisible wall of air between you and the mosquito: even though you’re standing right in front of it, the mosquito “ignores” you and no longer attempts to land on your skin.
