


Isophorone (IP) is a high-boiling-point, low-toxicity, multifunctional alicyclic ketone compound with the mf C₉H₁₄O and mw 138.21. It is a key chemical product derived from acetone through catalytic condensation and cyclization reactions. Its molecular structure contains one carbonyl group (C=O) and one carbon-carbon double bond (C=C), combining the stability of alicyclic compounds with the reactivity of ketones. It also exhibits strong solubility and low volatility. Isophorone exists as two isomers (α-isofuronone and β-isofuronone), with industrial products predominantly containing α-isofuronone (≥95% content). It possesses a distinctive mint-like or camphor-like odor.
